Abstract

748,242. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 15, 1954 [Dec. 7, 1953], No. 33997/53. Class 38 (2). An electrical coil wound from electrically conductive strip is wound into a generally triangular shape. A current transformer winding, which comprises one or more turns 12 of electrically conductive strip, has the strip wound edgewise into a triangularly shaped coil 11 so that the thickness of the strip is parallel to the axis 13 of the coil, leads 14, 15 being secured to the strip at a corner of the triangle and extending away from the axis 13 of the coil so as to make an obtuse angle between the leads and the two sides of the triangle adjacent the corner. An insulating member 21 is provided between the leads 14, 15 to form a smooth curvilinear transition between the leads and the coil sides thereby allowing an easier taping operation. The whole winding may be encased in a thermosetting insulating material. A number of such coils may be made by winding a large number of turns into a coil and dividing this coil into a number of coils by cuts midway along the two sides of the triangle adjacent the corner to which is secured the connecting leads.
