747,848. Separating solid materials. FULLER CO. Oct. 17, 1952 [Dec. 15, 1951], No. 6568/54. Divided out of 747,825. Class 117. In an apparatus for separating foreign substances from a moving stream of material by the use of a fluidized bed through which the foreign substances of greater density settle, the material is conveyed by a duct 11 containing an air permeable member 14, supporting the material, through which air is blown from the chamber 15 whereby the material flows by gravity along the duct. A fluidized column of material is supported in a housing 80 containing a rotatable member 82 supported on shaft 83, 84. The foreign material accumulates in a chamber 81 in the member 82, and is supported on an air permeable member 88, air being supplied to the chamber 89 through a conduit 90 in the shaft 84. Rotation of the member 82 discharges the foreign material through an opening 93 in the housing 80. The air activated gravity conveyer may be replaced by a screw conveyer.
