746,346. Direct current converters. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 23, 1954 [June 27, 1953], No. 18377/54. Class 35. In a D.C. machine for transforming a variable primary voltage U1 into a constant output voltage U2, the primary axis is unsaturated so that the machine runs at constant speed as a shunt motor while excitation of the secondary axis, which is self excited is made constant by saturation or the use of an iron-hydrogen resistor R. The output voltage may be stabilized by a device A controlling an additional primary field winding L1<SP>1</SP>. The device A may be a carbon-pile regulator or, as shown in Fig. 2, may comprise a bridge of linear resistances R1 and non-linear resistances R2 which is balanced only at the rated voltage. The voltage may also be controlled by excitation taken from two adjacent brushes.
