Abstract

952,243. Control of A.C. motors. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Jan. 17, 1962 [Jan. 17, 1961], No. 1790/62. Heading H2J. [Also in Division H3] The invention relates to an arrangement for generating a rectangular waveform, comprising a pair of transistors 6, 7 operating in push-pull with as common collector circuit the primary 9 of a transformer, and with their bases backcoupled to generate oscillations by means of secondary windings 10, 13 respectively. A resistor 16 between collector and base of transistor 6 provides a bias which ensures that oscillations start while diodes 24, 25 prevent excessive voltage surges being applied to the transistors. The arrangement is fed from an A.C. supply via bridge-connected rectifiers 3 and smoothing capacitors 4, 5. According to the invention the load 19 is also connected across the primary 9 of the transformer, so that the transistor collector current divides, part flowing through the primary winding and part through the load; in this way, as the loading increases the current available to drive the bases of the transistors decreases, causing the frequency of oscillation to increase. The arrangement may be used for supplying an induction motor, being adjusted to give constant speed irrespective of the load on the motor.
