Abstract

1,026,319. Exciting and controlling D.C. motors. MASCHINENFABRIK OERKLIKON. May 20, 1964 [May 21, 1964], No. 20702/64. Headings H2A and H2J. A D.C. series machine has field winding 2 connected in series with a rectifier 6 supplied from an independent variable voltage source 7 wherein an impedance 9 is connected to shunt the rectifier and field winding. In a modification a transductor having control windings supplied with voltages proportional to the armature and field currents, is used to vary the A.C. voltage applied to the rectifier bridge. In operation rectifier 6 supplies a D.C. voltage which can increase the current through field winding 2 thereby altering the ratio of field to armature current and therefor the motor speed. Field weakening is obtained by de-exciting generator 7 and braking obtained by closing contactor 10 to allow the field to be separately excited from rectifier 6. The rectifier may be bridge or centre connected.
