Abstract

745,328. Roller conveyers. SUMMERS & SONS, Ltd., J., and WILLOTT, R. L. Feb. 7, 1955 [Dec. 11, 1953], No. 34496/53. Class 78 (1). A conveyer for heavy cylindrical objects comprises a series of dished rolls 2, 3 of which alternate rolls 3 are idlers and the remainder 2 are driven one from another by gearing which includes gears 8 fast on the shafts of the driven rolls and idler gears 9 freely mounted on the shafts of the idler rolls. The conveyer is composed of a number of sections each provided with separate driving means and each comprising a number of rolls. A driven roll 1 near the middle of each section is connected through flanges 4, 5 and a gear-box 6 with an electric or hydraulic motor 7. The rolls are journalled in roller bearings 10 mounted in side housings 11, 12, each of which is formed in two parts 15, 16 and 17, 18. The lower parts have projections 21, 22 on their undersides which take into corresponding recesses 19, 20 in the base-plate 13. The upper sections of the housings have inclined faces 28 which follow approximately the dished contour of the rolls.
