Abstract

745,317. Cross-arms for posts. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd. Nov. 15, 1954 [Nov. 13, 1953 ; June 1, 1954], Nos. 31561/53 and 16246/54. Class 20(1). A cross-arm for a pole or tower for supporting overhead electric lines is made of resin bonded glass fibres. The cross-arm, Fig. 1, comprises bars 1, 2 attached at their ends to blocks 3, 4 formed with sockets 5, 6 for supporting insulators and is strengthened by webs 8, 9. At the centre a block 7 is provided having a socket into which the upper end of the pole fits. This socket may be extended and closed at its upper end where it supports a third insulator. In a modification, the cross-arm may have two sockets for use with an H-pole system. The arm, Fig. 3, has a socket 11 and block 10 for supporting an insulator. As shown in Figs. 8 and 9, the lines 19, 22 may be attached directly to the ends 18, 21 of the arm.
