Abstract

1313609 Insulators BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CONSTRUCTION CO Ltd 22 June 1971 [23 June 1970] 30497/70 Heading H2C An electric insulator comprises a rod 1 of circular or rectangular cross-section formed of ceramic or vitreous material, e.g. porcelain, to which are secured, by thermal shrinkage and adhesive, annular bodies 2 of an insulating material other than ceramic or vitreous material, e.g. synthetic resin. Some or all of the annular bodies may have different diameters and holes 3 are provided in the ends of the rod for the attachment of fittings (14, 15, Fig. 4, 16, 17, Fig. 5, not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the annular bodies 22 are integral with a tube 28 of the same material which encapsulates the rod 21. Fig. 7 (not shown) depicts an insulator (30) according to the invention supporting a resin-bonded glass fibre rod in an overhead electric power supply system for railways. In this connection reference is made to Specification 1,291,842. Fig. 8 (not shown) depicts insulators (52, 54) in use in another supply structure.
