Abstract
743,964. Testing pressure gauges. HART & ZN., INSTRUMENTEN-EN APPARATENFABRIEK N.V., W.C.T. Dec. 9, 1953, No. 34295/53. Class 106 (2). A valve block for use in balancing hydraulic pressures, for example when calibrating manometers, comprises a plunger 2, Fig. 2, having at least three pressure surfaces 3, 4, 5, passages for connecting said pressure surfaces to a pressure supply 33, and at least two valve elements 11, 21 for putting said pressure surfaces into operation or for rendering them inoperative. In operation, weights are placed on the plunger 2 and fluid is pumped into the block until the plunger lifts, the fluid pressure needed depending upon the setting of the valves 11 and 21. As shown in Fig. 3a the valves 11 and 21 are closed so that the pressure fluid acts on the surface 4 only, surfaces 3 and 5 being vented to atmosphere through passages 7 and 19. In Fig. 3b valve 21 is opened such that the surface 5 is also acted on by the pressure fluid and the passage 19 to atmosphere is sealed. Figs. 3c and 3d illustrate further alternatives. Fluid is supplied to the connection 33 by means of a pump, the gauge 10 to be calibrated being coupled to the supply pipe between the pump and the connection 33.
