Abstract

743,381. Sand-blast. SOMMERFIELD, Ltd., H. G. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct. 12, 1953], No. 28067/53. Class 60 A rotary impeller for a sand blasting machinecomprises a backing plate 1 secured by key 2 on a horizontal driving shaft 3 and carrying a number of removably mounted blades 28. A pair of keying bars 34, 35 formed on the rear face 30 of each blade 28 have keying faces 36, 37; the keying face 37 engages with a lip 16 formed on the inner end of a mounting bracket 6 secured to the backing plate 1 by studs 8, 9 and nuts 10, 11; the keying face 36 engages with lip 23 of a catch member 22 mounted on the bracket 6 and adjustable radially of the backing plate by nuts 26, 27 screwed on bolts 20, 21 passing through holes in the end wall 17 of the bracket 6. To mount the blades the lips 16, 23 are separated by unscrewing the nuts 26, 27. The outer end 32 of the blade 28 is wider than the inner end 33, thus forming a shoulder 31 which corresponds with a shoulder 13 formed in the side wall 12 of the bracket 6. The operating face of the blade may be convex at its inner end and straight at its outer end.
