Abstract
464,608. Sand - blast. AMERICAN FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT CO. June 20, 1936, No. 17240. Convention date, June 21, 1935. Addition to 442,539. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXVI] Comprises improved constructional features and details of the abrasive throwing wheel forming the subject-matter of Specification 442,539. The channel-shaped throwing-blades b, the advancing faces of which preferably extend radially of the wheel, are held without the aid of carriers in grooves 11 in the side plates 1, 2, or against shoulders on these plates, being in the construction shown retained by taper-ended screws 31 engaging their rear faces, which may have recesses in which the end of the screws engage. The side plates 1, 2 are formed from wear-resisting steel without projections on their inner faces which would interfere with the flow of abrasive, and are connected by studs 3 welded to them directly behind the blades b, where the abrasive will not impinge on them. To secure uniform distribution of the thrown abrasive, the tubular control member 10 is provided with an aligned series of discharge apertures 01 ... O<4> of successively greater area in the direction of rotation of the wheel. A circular gasket 40 surrounds the control member and abuts against the front flanges of the blades to prevent egress of abrasive. The construction allows free circulation of air around the control member 10 and the inner ends of the blades, pressure variations liable to interfere with the flow of abrasive being thereby avoided.
