Abstract
533,051. Sand blast. AMERICAN FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT CO. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 27055. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1938. [Class 60] In an abrasive throwing machine as described in Specification 464,608, a passage and a drive element are associated with the control member 30 to move stray abrasive, which has passed the outlet 32 axially, back again into position to be thrown by the impeller blades 87 through said outlet 32, or a vent is provided in the hub h of the rotor W to allow this stray abrasive to escape and to equalize the air pressure, or the passage, drive element and vent are all provided. The passage may comprise a helical groove 41 formed inside the rear portion of the member 30 and the drive element two fan blades, produced by forming two sector grooves 88<SP>1</SP> in the rear portion of the impeller i. Holes 25 are provided in the hub h, to serve as air inlets for the fan 80<SP>1</SP> which thus creates a current of air along the groove 41 to resist and return stray abrasive and as vents for any abrasive which passes the groove 41 and fan. The impeller i is mounted on the shaft 21 by a screw 92 and an extension of the key 22. The member 30, feed spout, and funnel 72 are mounted by brackets 60, 61, 75, and 53 slotted to receive bolts so that they can be adjusted in any direction. The edge 34, Fig. 3, of the outlet 32 may be bevelled. The blades b may be thicker towards their outer ends and their inner ends may be bevelled at 12.
