442,539. Sand-blast; centrifugal fans. AMERICAN FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT CO., Byrkert Street, Mishawaka, Indiana, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Peik, L. D.) Aug. 9, 1934, No. 23076. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1933. [Class 60] [See also Group XXVI] A centrifugal machine for throwing granular abrasive for sand and like blasting comprises a number of throwing vanes having their inner ends spaced from their centre of rotation to form a space in which means is accommodated for projecting the abrasive outwardly on to the vanes across their inner edges at a predetermined angular position, thus determining the arc over which discharge of the abrasive occurs at the outer ends of the vanes. The apparatus shown comprises side wall plates 11, 12, of which the former is mounted on a high-speed shaft 10, and spacing-members 13 detachably bolted between the plates, which form between them discharge passages 18 for the abrasive. Detachable wear plates 60 with ribs 61 engaging grooves in the wall of the passages are held in place by screws 63. The means for projecting the abrasive at a predetermined angular position on to the inner ends of the blades comprises a cylindrical control member 24 having an aperture 45 through which the abrasive, supplied from a feed pipe 20, is projected by impeller blades 36. The chamber 24 is rotatably mounted on the circular head 21, so that it may be angularly adjusted to vary the position of the aperture 45 and hence that of the arc over which the abrasive is discharged at the periphery of the machine. The impeller vanes 36 are carried on a plate 37 having segmental slots 38 to enable it to be screwed in adjustable angular position to the face of a recess 28 in the end plate 11, the impeller blades thus rotating at the same speed as the vanes. Vanes with straight radiallyextending faces, over the entire length of which the replaceable wear plates may extend, may be employed. In another form, the outer portions of the passages 18 are inclined to the radial lines. Specification 442,584 is referred to.
