442,584. Sand-blast; centrifugal fans. AMERICAN FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT CO., Byrkert Street, Mishawaka, Indiana, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Peik, L. D.) Aug. 9, 1934, No. 32792 /35. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1933. Divided out of 442,539. [Class 60] [See also Group XXVI] In a method of, and apparatus for, throwing granular abrasive for sand and like blasting a restricted stream of abrasive is forcibly fed to the inner portion of each of a number of rotating vanes at a predetermined angular position and in such a direction as to reduce to a minimum the shock due to relative velocity of the abrasive and the throwing vane at the point of impact. The apparatus described and shown is the same as that described in Specification 442,539, and is so designed that the abrasive is projected through the aperture 45 in the control member 24 at such a velocity in the direction of rotation of the machine that its path, as shown by the broken lines, merges smoothly into the spiral path which it follows after impact with the vane. In the apparatus described, the feed of abrasive takes place across substantially the whole axial width of the vanes and in a direction having substantially no axial component, and the impeller blades in the control member 24 are equal in number to the vanes and rotate at the same speed, and slightly in advance of them.
