743,208. Drilling-machines. HINDMARCH, T. Feb. 26, 1954 [March 19, 1953], No. 7664/53. Class 83 (3). A drilling-machine for long holes located eccentrically in a workpiece comprises a bed carrying a saddle with a spindle and chuck and movable parallel to the spindle axis, a headstock also mounted on the bed for rotation about the axis of the drill and comprising a cylindrical member mounted in bearings on its periphery and having its ends bored eccentrically to its axis of rotation and receiving in said bores a casing for holding the work, and means to rotate the drill and headstock in opposite directions at different speeds. The drill 14, Fig. 1, is carried by a spindle 6 fed by a quill 5 and hand wheel 7. The drill is rotated by a belt 12 from an electric motor 9 above the head 2 carrying the drill. The head is adjustable along the bed by a hand wheel 3 and rack and pinion. Chucks.-The work, indicated in broken lines in Fig. 1, is carried by a sleeve 26 secured eccentrically in a rotatable drum 15 by an end-plate 31 and screwed sleeve 34. At its opposite end the sleeve 26 has a split clamping- member 27 secured thereto by bolts and slots. The clamping member secures the work in the sleeve and is adjustable transversely to the sleeve axis by pegs 30, fitting an eccentric series of circular holes 29 in the sleeve in the manner of a dividing head. The drum 15 is rotated slowly, oppositely to the drill, by gearing 20-24 and an electric motor 19. Weights 35 attached to the drum 16 balance the work &c.
