Abstract

839,046. Copy-boring. SCHIESS A.G. July 4, 1957 [July 10, 1956], No. 21144/57. Class 83 (3). A copy-boring machine for profiling bores comprises a rotatable boring spindle 1 held against axial movement, and carrying a rotatable and axially movable boring-head 5, a tool holder 20 and a feeler 9 both mounted on a slide 4 movable radially on the boring-head, and a pattern 7 mounted on the boring-spindle 1 and disposed inside the work 2 to be bored. As applied to boring the cylindrical or substantially cylindrical steps in the stator 2 of a turbine, the boring-spindle, in a support 3 at each end of the work, is rotated, the boring-head fed along the spindle, and the slide 4 fed radially in the boring-head by known means (not shown). The pattern 7 rotates with the spindle 1, being secured to holders 6 attached to the spindle. Electrical impulses from the feeler 9 scanning the pattern are fed to control devices (not shown) for effecting movement of the slide 4, the impulses being transmitted along a cable 10 housed in a longitudinal, covered groove 11 in the boring spindle, and connected at one end to the feeler and at the other to a ring carrier 15 rotatable with, but movable along, the spindle, as by a weight 14 and a cord 12 secured to a slide 13 in which the carrier rotates, in order to tension the cable.
