[Also in Group XVII] In a machine for banding packages in which the band is trained around the package by a ring 4, the band 5 is fed from the front of the ring partly round a feed pulley 8, over track rollers 11 on the front of the ring, around a transfer pulley 10, and over at least one guide roller 12 on the back of the ring to one of two relatively movable grippers 13, which tension the band. The package is placed within the ring on the table 1, and the band supply is placed on the floor in front of the ring. The end of the band is fed through a guide 6 on the ring. over the pulleys and rollers, laid in the groove of a twisting mechanism, and gripped by a gripper. After a complete revolution of the ring the band is trained about the package, laid alongside the band in the groove, and fed to the other gripper. The grippers are moved to tension the band about the package, the twisting mechanism is operated to form a tie and the looped band is severed from the supply. The arrangement of rollers on the rings obviates them damaging the movable gripper or other moving parts should the timing of the various operations become slightly maladjusted. A guard 14 may be fitted.
