Abstract

742,308. Coating threads. SUCKER GES., GEB. Aug. 12, 1952 [Nov. 30, 1951], No. 20281/ 52. Class 140. A device for dry sizing threads or batches of threads comprises rotating rollers for applying the dry size in liquid or solid form to the threads and heat regulating means for heating or cooling to influence the temperature at the outer periphery of the rollers. As shown in Fig. 2, the device comprises a combined spreading and applying roller (sizing roller) having a hollow body 18 with perforated jacket surface and hollow journals 18<SP>1</SP> and 18<SP>11</SP> rotatably mounted in frame standards 19 and driven through the gear-wheel 20 by suitable means (not shown), a conducting pipe 21 for liquid size provided with bore holes or slots 22 and if necessary carrying a heating device 23 and connected on one end with a flexible supply pipe 28 which is connected to a double-walled accumulator 29 heatable by elements 34 mounted on a vertically adjustable platform 30 on a standard 33 and connected at the other end with a discharge pipe 36 furnished with a regulating and shut-off cock 37 and connected with a conveying device 38 in the space between the frame standards 19 which can be heated by heating elements 43, 43<SP>1</SP>, which returns the liquid size into the accumulator through a pressure pipe 39, the outer jacket of the hollow body 18 being surrounded by an inner sieve-like covering 24 and an outer brush-like covering 25, which are bounded at one end of the jacket surface by a stripping cylinder 26 and at which end adjustable bores 27 and 27<SP>1</SP> in the front surface of the hollow body are provided. In operation as shown in Fig. 1, a thread or batch of threads 1 drawn off a winding body 2 is divided in two after passing over a guiding roller 3 and each is then contacted successively by combined spreading and applying rollers 9, 91 and 10, 101 each of which can be subjected to heat by radiators 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and 14, 14<SP>1</SP> or cooling by jet nozzles 15, 15<SP>1</SP> and 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, the contacting pressure and surfaces being regulated by rocking bars 4, 4<SP>1</SP> provided with rollers 5, 6 and 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP>, after which the threads are combined over a roller 7 and wound on a winding body 8.
