Abstract
742,236. Ventilators. SOC ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS NEU., and FOURTIER, J. L. May 13, 1954 [May 19, 1953; May 19, 1953], No. 14067/54. Class 137. An air distributer comprises a swivelling nozzle 3 universally mounted within a part spherical aperture 2 in a frame member 1. fitted to a ventilation pipe 4, the nozzle 3, provided with a central bore 5 and curved radial blades 17, 18, being adjustable in either of three operative positions, viz. a closed position, Fig. 6, in which the ends of the bore 5 are closed by the frame 1 and a pair of blades 17, 18 close the aperture 2 ; a position, Fig. 7, obtained by rotating the nozzle from the position shown in Fig. 6 through 45 degrees about the axis of the bore 5 so that two oppositely directed streams of air are distributed through the openings between the frame 1 and the nozzle 5; and a position, Fig. 8, in which jets of air flow through the bore 5 and through the openings between the frame and the curved vanes. The vanes 17, 18 are machined out of a spherical nozzle member by four cylindrical tools which are disposed at spaced angular intervals around, and at a common radius from, the centre of the bore 5, the parallel axes of the tools each being tangential to the spherical body. The frame 1 is preferably composed of two detachable parts to permit the mounting of the nozzle 5, and the spherical segment in which the nozzle swings is made of two half sections which are urged by springs against the nozzle 5. In a modification, Fig. 9, the frame member 23 carrying the nozzle threadedly engages an inner annular portion of a frame 22 round an opening in a duct 6, the frame 23 having a flange 26 to register with an annular aperture 27 in the frame 22. In an alternative arrangement the member 23 is slidably mounted in the frame 22. In another arrangement the flange 26 is formed to correspond in shape to a widened base portion of the frame 22 to act as a shutter to one, or more, orifices formed therein. In two further modifications the opening 27 in the frame either communicates with an exhaust pipe, or a fresh air supply and the nozzle 5 correspondingly communicates with a fresh air, or heated air, delivery pipe.
