Abstract
718,143. Ventilators. WINSOR ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. April 25, 1952, No. 10412/52. Class 137 In apparatus for supplying air under pressure for ventilating spaces such as on board ship, in which the air is supplied from cold and hot air trunks 3, 4, Fig. 1, to a mixing box 12 from which it issues directly into the space to be ventilated through a directionally adjustable outlet 13 mounted on the box, the trunks 3, 4, have adjacent entries to the box at which pivotal valve plates 8, 10 are hinged at their adjacent ends, their free ends extending downstream relative to the air flow 5, the plates being capable of regulating the resultant mixed air supply through the outlet 13 over the range between hot and cold and also of completely cutting off the supply of air. The valve plates 8, 10 are mounted on spindles 9, 11 and are operated by handles 16, Fig. 2, co-operating with a dial 14 on the wood panelling 15. The spindles 9, 11 are loaded by means of springs 19 and pressure-adjusting caps 20 or in a modification positive setting of each spindle is ensured by the provision of a moving arm with a spring-loaded ball co-operating with a fixed dimpled plate. A valve seating 17 of felt, velvet or expanded rubber is provided for each plate and an inner layer of felt 18 is provided in the box 12 to deaden the sound. The adjustable outlet 13 may be of the type mounted by means of diametrically opposed transverse trunnion pins in a transverse trunnion ring, turnable in a retaining ring or may be a directionally adjustable air diffuser. An air space 21 between trunks 3 and 4 minimises the heat exchange between the air in the trunks.
