Abstract
694,533. Air conditioning. HEIDE, H. C. (Carrier Corporation). May 11, 1951, No. 11184/51. Class 137. In a method of air conditioning a building having a plurality of enclosed areas a constant volume of conditioned air from a first source is supplied to each enclosure and at such a temperature as to compensate for the heat gain or loss due to heat transfer between the interior and exterior of the enclosure, and also a volume of conditioned air from a second source at a constant temperature low enough to compensate for sensible heat factors, the volume of secondary air being varied according to the conditions within a particular enclosure. The primary air may consist of conditioned fresh air and the secondary air of conditioned recirculated air, or mixture of fresh and recirculated air may be used. As shown fresh air is admitted to a conditioning plant 2 comprising a filter 4, a heater 5, adjustable dampers 23, a dehumidifying cooler 6, a re-heater 7 and a fan 8 which supplies the air through a conduit 9 to enclosures 12 through branch conduits 10 and distributers 11. Air withdrawn from the enclosures 12 through the conduit ,19 is cooled in a plant 13 by a cooler 14 and supplied by a fan 15, the line 16, branch conduits 17 and distributers 11 or 35 to the enclosed areas 12, the amount of air so supplied being controlled by thermostats 32 or 36 or other means situated in each enclosed area 12. The two air streams may be discharged through the same distributer or through separate distributers. The heaters and coolers in the units 2 and 13 are controlled by suitable controls 37, 38, 39 and 40. A conduit 20 having a valve 24 and a conduit 21 having a valve 26 enables air withdrawn from the enclosures to be used as part of the primary air and fresh air entering the unit 2 to constitute part of the secondary air.
