Abstract

1,097,354. Air conditioning. SULZER BROS. Ltd. July 11, 1966 [July 28, 1965], No. 31053/66. Heading F4V. The rooms of a building are individually air conditioned by a central unit 15 supplying humidified, cooled air through a single duct 5 divided into branch ducts 6, this air reaching the room through a perforated ceiling 10a, the rooms being heated by thermostatically controlled radiators 11 disposed in front of the windows of the room and employing water or steam heated by a boiler (not shown) or by a heat exchanger in conjunction with the refrigeration system of the air conditioning unit 15. Fresh air and recirculated air from ducts 17, 18 respectively are mixed in the central unit 15, and subjected to filtering at 21, 22, preheating at 23, humidifying at 24, droplet separation at 26 and cooling at an evaporator 27. The cooling is performed by a refrigeration system 33, 34, 35, 27 controlled by a dew-point thermostat 36. The condenser 34 is cooled by water which passes through a heat exchanger 40 and is used as the alternative source of heat for the heating system. The water used in heating the rooms is heated at either heat exchanger 43 or 40 and is passed through line 48 which divides into lines 13 for each room. The heated water is mixed with return water by thermostatically controlled three-way mixing valves 50, in relation to external temperature.
