Abstract

1,122,396. Air conditioning greenhouses; refrigerating. K. R. JOHNSON. 14 Oct., 1965 [14 July, 1964], No. 28963/64. Headings F4H and F4V. Apparatus for de-humidifying air in glasshouses comprises a duct 1, a fan 2, a cooler 3, a heater 4 and a tray 5 with a drain 6 for removing water condensed by the cooler. Cooler 3 comprises the evaporator and heater 4, the condenser of a refrigeration system having a compressor 7, capillary 8 and expansion valve 9. The fan and compressor are controlled by a humidistat which may be overridden by a thermostat arranged to prevent operation of the apparatus when the temperature in the glasshouse is greater than 85‹ F. The heater 4 may be operated so as to raise the temperature of the air to a level greater than that at which it enters the duct. The -heater and cooler may comprise conventional heat exchangers fed with hot and cold liquids respectively; alternatively heater 4 may comprise electric heating elements.
