Abstract
1,125,796. Spray-producers. AEROCOAT S.A. 25 May, 1967 [26 May, 1966], No. 23514/66. Heading B2F. An electrostatic spray producer suitable for coating an article with a powder comprises a hollow member 28 adapted to be rotated by a variable speed motor (33), fig. 2 (not shown), and means (6-10) associated with a cable (36) and arranged to supply a high voltage to the member 28 via the motor (33) whereby an electrostatic field is provided between the member and the article, said member 28 being provided with a plurality of apertures 73, (74), fig. 4 (not shown) through which the powder may be discharged generally axially, and with a plurality of apertures 71 through which the powder may be discharged in a direction substantially at right angles to the axis of rotation of the member. The aperture (74) is circular and the apertures 71, 73 are curved and elongated, substantially all the powder being discharged through the apertures 73, (74) when the member is rotated at a slow speed, and substantially all the powder being discharged through the apertures 71 when the member is rotated at a high speed. Air is supplied to an annular passage 52 in a shroud 27 and is discharged through a plurality of fine holes 53, 54 the axes of which vary with respect to the axis of rotation of the member 28. Perforated rings 58, 60 are located in the passage 52 by springs 65, 66. Separate triggers 14 and 24 actuate two manually adjustable valves, not shown, in the air line to the motor (33) so that the trigger 14 opens one valve, which causes the member 28 to be rotated at a first speed, and the trigger 24 opens the second valve. The triggers also control the supply of air to the shroud and the high potential supply. Hollow articles may be uniformly sprayed by varying the air pressure and the speed of rotation of the member 28. The said member has a central boss 70, a metal insert 63 and a metal washer 64.
