Abstract

1475750 Apparatus for coating thread of nuts with powder USM CORP 9 Sept 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 39223/74 Heading B2L Apparatus for providing a self-locking thermoplastic insert in a nut N comprises a conduit 23 with an orifice for directing upwardly powder in a gaseous stream supplied intermittently at an intake opening 22 of the conduit, the orifice being purged of powder between emissions by connecting the intake opening to a suction passage 33. As shown nuts N pass down a chute 12 through an induction heater 50 onto a rotating table 17 and are supplied with powder through a respective conduit 23 over 180‹ of rotation of the table while passing through a pair of suction hoods 45, which prevent powder deposition on the end threads, finally leaving the table up a second chute 14. Powder added to a hopper 15 falls onto a conical member 30 from which it is carried by air from a passage 31 through a venturi slot into a fixed 180‹ slot 29 from which it passes into the moving radial conduits 23. The fixed hub 11 also includes an opposed 150‹ slot 34 connected to the suction passage 33 which purge the conduits when they register with the slot 34.
