Abstract

1443742 Atomising nozzles E GROLITSCH 9 July 1973 [12 July 1972] 32654/73 Heading B2F An atomising device comprises a parabolic reflector 2 having substantially at its focus an atomiser "nozzle" 9 which discharges an atomised cone 4 which impinges on the reflector and is thereby deflected outwardly as a further atomised spray 6. The reflector or both nozzle and reflector may be rotated and the spray is controlled by varying the pressure of the supply to the nozzle and the speed of rotation and by interchangeable reflectors and nozzles. The specification disoribes a whirling spray nozzle (Fig. 3, not shown), a nozzle comprising perforations in a frusto-conical surface (Fig. 5-8 not shown) and a nozzle comprising a cylindrical body with a plurality of axial passages disposed in a circle (Figs. 9-12 not shown); the passages are convergent/ divergent. The specification also describes drive and fluid feed passage means for rotating devices (Figs. 9-14 not shown). The reflector may be heated (Figs. 9 11 not shown) and the devices may be used for spray drying.
