Abstract
501,926. Ventilators. MARSHALL, J., and JOHNSTON, N. F. Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24573. [Class 137] An air outlet member for a directional ventilator comprises a hollow spherical shell 12 through which is an axial passage 13 leading from an air trunk 10 to the exterior. The shell 12 is supported on a swivel ring 16 by trunnion pins 17 screwed into bosses 18 and mounted in bearings 19 in the swivel ring which turns in an annular bearing 20 secured to the air trunk. A ring of felt packing 21 is provided for the ring 16 which is secured by a retaining ring 22. The shell 12 is thus turnable about the axis of the trunnions, and is rotatable in a plane B-B so that it can be adjusted universally by its hand grip 23. A grid of light bars 24 or of wire gauze is provided. The ring 16 is provided with a shell 25 into which the wheel 12 fits, and the rim of which is lined with an overturned strip 26 of packing materialsuch as velvet, and a flange 27 on the shell 12 bears against the strip 26 when the ventilator is in its closed position with the air inlet 14 masked by the shell 25 which turns with the swivel ring. The tube 13 is partially covered by a cuff 28 of felt to damp out vibration. The ventilator may be made wholly or in part of an organic plastic material.
