Abstract

512,169. Ventilators. JOHNSTON, N. F. April 28, 1938, No. 12684. [Class 137] In a ventilator of the kind comprising a spherical member with an air passage therethrough and carried in a socket or by trunnion pins so that it may be adjusted, the flow of air through the passage is controlled by means located within the spherical member. The ventilator comprises essentially a ball member 1 having a passage 2 extending therethrough and terminating in a short outlet trunk 2a, the ball being rotatable in a socket 3. Fig. 1 shows an adjustable cover 32 inside the ball member, the trunk 2 having hinged to it a rod 31 terminating at one end in the cover plate 32, and at the other in a handle 33 by rotation of which the opening to the trunk may be uncovered. In modifications, the sliding cover plate 32 may be replaced by flap valves. In Fig. 4 is shown a cover 39 carried by a rod 40 in a spider 41, the cover being moved up and down to control the air entering the trunk 2. Specification 495,312 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
