Abstract

741,831. Valves and valve gear. KELSTON ENGINEERING CO.. Ltd., and BURRAGE, G. W. May 3, 1954 [Feb. 3. 1953], No. 3039/53. Classes 7(2) and 7(6) A poppet valve 7 is actuated by a sleeve 8 mounted for axial sliding movement on the valve stem 6 and carrying a cam follower 18 engaging a cam groove 5 formed in the face of a rotating disc 3, the valve being opened by downward movement of the sleeve 8 to contact an abutment 9 on the valve stem 6 and closed by upward movement of the sleeve acting through a spring 16 on a second abutment 13 on the valve stem. The disc 3 is formed as a gear wheel and the sleeve 8 is guided by two guide lugs 23 projecting from a cover plate 22 closing the valve gear casing 2. The abutment 13 is formed as a sleeve the lower end 27 of which is separated by a clearance 26 from a co-operating shoulder in the sleeve 8, which shoulder limits the movement of the valve under inertia at the end of the opening stroke. In a modification the cam follower 18 is connected to the sleeve 8 through a rocker.
