Abstract
741,579. Resilient joints. THIRY, L. F. April 10, 1953 [Aug. 16, 1952], No. 9729/53. Class 108 (3). A resilient core for a resilient joint comprises a rigid pin or sleeve 15 (Fig. 12) encircled by a rubber bushing B having, over that part of its length to be encircled by an outer rigid member 17 of the joint, a tubular body portion of constant radial wall thickness, the girth of the bore of the bushing B in its free state being less than the girth of the pin 15. The bush may be flanged at both ends. A counterbore 25 to the depth of the flange may or may not be provided. The conical portions 20<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>11</SP> may be omitted. The bush may be uniformly tapered from the flange to the other end (Fig. 1, not shown). Fig. 7 shows the form of the bush when two half-bushes are assembled end to end in the outer member (Fig. 8, not shown). Fig. 12 shows the invention applied to a spring shackle. Each pin is a press-fit in one end of a shackle plate 16.It is thus possible to make the construction of the two shackle plates 16 identical. The members 15, 17, and B may be of elliptical or polygonal cross-section. The end plates 16 may be flat, instead of dished, as shown.
