Abstract
An interlining fabric for use in a fused fabric assembly consisting of non-thermoplastic threads which by themselves form a coherent fabric and interwoven therewith threads which consist wholly or in part of a thermoplastic material which is solid at atmospheric temperature but which melts or softens sufficiently to become adhesive at a temperature to which the other constituents of the fabric can be subjected without damage is coated with a material which provides a stiffening of the fabric effective in the unfused fabric and is not destroyed by the fusing operation or by subsequent laundering of the fused fabric assembly. The non-thermoplastic threads may be of cotton, linen or wool and the thermoplastic material of which the other threads may be composed may be polythene. The stiffening may be effected by coating the fabric with a solution of cellulose acetate or an aqueous dispersion of methyl methacrylate. According to the Provisional Specification, the non-thermoplastic constituents of the fabric may be viscose rayon or cellulose acetate.
