[Class 140] [Also in Group XV] A label for marking textile articles to be laundered. dry-cleaned or dyed consists of a tape or tab faced on one side with a thermoplastic material to enable it to be secured to the article by hot-pressing, and on the other with a hydrophobic substance capable of penetration or swelling by the organic solvent of a marking ink subsequently applied. A cotton fabric is impregnated on one side with a solution of cellulose acetate, to form an ink-receptive layer, a sheet of polythene is fused to the other side using heat, pressure, and, if desired, a solvent such as hot toluol, and the material is cut into tapes or tabs. Alternatively a cellulose ester film may be fused on to the upper surface and the lower surface coated with polythene emulsion to form a thermoplastic layer. The hydrophobic inkreceptive substance may be of the same nature as the thermoplastic material. Specifications 481,436 and 553,740, [Group IV], are referred to.
