[Class 140] Compound fabrics having an embossed surface are made by placing a parchmentized and transparentized cloth such as cotton cloth or muslin upon a non-parchmentized cloth of vegetable or animal fibres such as muslin uniting the two fabrics at certain parts by printing with a waterinsoluble adhesive such as a synthetic resin, drying, and treating with a shrinking agent for the backing fabric, e.g., alkali or mineral acid. The adhesive may be polyvinyl acetate dissolved .in .acetone and cyclohexanone. The facing or the backing fabric may be coloured or printed.
