Abstract

741,144. Finishing yarns. STUBBS, Ltd., J. Dec. 29, 1953 [Dec. 30, 1952], No. 32941/52. Class 120 (3). Dust and/or fibrous particles which remain on the surface of a yarn after it has been gassed is removed by means of a grooved or fluted roller mounted so as to be rotated by passage thereover of the yarn which is also traversed longitudinally of the roller. The roller may be of metal or moulded synthetic resin, e.g. phenol or urea-aldehyde condensation product, and may comprise recessed end flanges accommodating self-lubricating spindle-bearings: the grooves or flutings may be formed longitudinally, peripherally-in which case the roller must be used in combination with a plain roller to ensure that the yarn does not remain in one groove-or helically. In the gassing frames shown, yarn b is unwound from a package C, passes through a burner B, and is directed over a grooved or fluted roller A and on to winding mechanism C<SP>1</SP> or C<SP>2</SP> whereby it is formed into a package C' : the reciprocating motion given to the yarn by the mechanism C<SP>1</SP> or C<SP>2</SP> is imparted to the yarn as it passes over the roller A.
