740,399. Plate heat-exchangers. CREAMERY PACKAGE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. May 21, 1954 [May 29, 1953], No. 14942/53. Class 64(3). [Also in Group XXVI] A flat, synthetic rubber or other non-metallic gasket a used particularly to separate adjacent plates in a heat exchanger, is reinforced by a metallic ribbon b having a spring-like characteristic, which is embedded in the gasket material' and which permits the gasket to be flexed in a plane passing through the length of the ribbon while resisting bending or torsion of the reinforced gasket section in a plane transverse to the length of the ribbon. The gasket shown comprises a substantially rectangular frame and incorporates the usual flow apertures for the heat exchanging fluids, the reinforcing strips b preferably of stainless steel being embedded in the sides of the frame. The gasket thus retains its configuration when the heat exchange plates are separated for cleaning.
