Abstract
740,267. Cathode materials. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 13, 1953 [May 31, 1952], No. 9964/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). The filamentary electrode of a discharge device, especially a fluorescent lamp, has a coating of alkaline earth metal oxide(s), including also a quantity of hafnium dioxide between about 0.1 per cent and 1.37 per cent by weight. Zirconium dioxide may also be present. The effect is to increase the life and reduce discolouration of the lamp. Experimental data is given showing the results of life and discolouration tests with various proportions of hafnium dioxide and zirconium dioxide.
