Abstract

697,613. Arc electrodes. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. June 27, 1950 [July 6, 1949], No. 15979/50. Class 39(i) A high intensity positive carbon electrode, particularly for use in motion picture projectors, comprises a shell and a core, either one or both of which contains tungsten in a total amount between ' 0.1 per cent and 1 per cent by weight computed as tungsten oxide. The core may contain also a mixture of carbon and rare earth metal oxides and fluorides. The core may consist predominantly of rare earth metal oxides and fluorides with between 0.1 per cent and 0.5 per cent by weight of tungsten oxide preferably .25 per cent. The major portion of the shell may be composed of coke-base carbon. The diameter of the electrode can be between 6 and 8 mms. and the electrode can be operated at amperages varying from 30 to 70. Specification 14741/12, [Class 39(i)], is referred to.
