Abstract

An inert gas-shielded arc welding torch has a non-consumable electrode composed of tungsten having dispered therein a total amount of 2 to 10 per cent of at least two of the compounds, barium oxide, calcium oxide, cerium oxide and yttrium oxide, preferably with 0,5 to 3 per cent of each constituent. A little thorium oxide may be added. Yttrium earth concentrates are added to provide the yttrium oxide and powdered calcium acetate to provide the calcium oxide. The electrode is made by forming under pressure a mixture of the powders of the constituents and sintered at 2000 DEG C. by passage of current therethrough. The electrode is finally drawn or swaged.
