Abstract
1465535 Welding by pressure STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 9 May 1974 20530/74 Heading B3R A resistance spot welding electrode for welding workpieces, at least one of which is 500 micrometres or less in thickness, comprises a rod-like member of a first material and a single portion 3 of a second material located at least at the end of the member, the portion being substantially coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the member, which axis passes through the second material, and which second material is harder and of lower electrical conductivity than the first material, the portion in use engaging the work and defining the area of the weld. The portion 3 is a "pip" as shown or may be a core force fitted in the member. The "pip" or core may be of tungsten, tungsten carbide or molybdenum and the member may be of copper chromium alloy. The member has a domed end beyond which the "pip" or domed end of the core projects.
