Abstract

Metal is deposited onto a metal workpiece, esp. by welding, using a principal arc between a consumable electrode and the workpiece. A secondary arc is used between the tip of the first electrode and the tip of a sec. electrode using part of the current flowing through the first electrode. the two arcs may be obtd. using the same power supply, or two power supplies. When the same power supply is used, a resistance may be included to control the current in the principal and/or sec. arcs. Submerged arc welding is pref. used with bare or coated electrodes.
