PURPOSE:To obtain a weld zone of high quality and to facilitate electric current regulation with the stable arc and smooth globular transfer in pulse arc welding by specifying current change width, the starting time for the rise and fall of current and external characteristics. CONSTITUTION:In pulse arc welding using a consumable electrode in an inert gas, the current change width of peak current IP and base current IB is set at >=300A, the time T from the start of the rise of the current IP until the start of its fall at 0.2ms<=T<=4ms, and the external characteristics on the current IB side for regulation of arc length at 2V/100A-5V/100A. As the IP is larger in the pulse current waveform, the crystal grain sizes in the weld zone are finer, and if the relation between the IP and the TP is assured, one piece of globule can be transferred surely in one pulse. However, this relation receives the influence of the external characteristics of the power source. It is necessary to limit the external characteristics within the above-described range in order to obtain the stable arc.
