Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform welding work easily and stably without fresh setting of welding conditions in a short circuit transfer arc welding machine by regulating the current of the arc period automatically according to the feed rate of a wire thereby controlling weld heat input. CONSTITUTION:A wire electrode 7a of a wire 7 in a welding torch 9 is short- circuited to welding base metals 10, and short circuit current is flowed from a DC powr circuit 1. The leading end of the electrode 7a is burned off and an arc is generated; at the same time, the reference pulse current waveform corresponding to the feed speed of the wire is generated from a reference pulse waveform generator 23. This reference pulse current waveform and the current value signal detected with a current detector 11 are inputted to a comparator 24 which applies on and off signals to a switching element 2 when the value of the difference between these is positive and negative. The current waveform, that is, electric charge quantity, during the arc period is controlled by the feedback controlling of the current during this arc period, whereby the quantity of heat input is controlled and the welding work is accomplished stably without fresh setting of welding conditions each time.
