Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent generation of spatter by increasing and reducing the arc length to hold the arc voltage constant, by detecting the arc voltage value to compare it with the set value and by controlling the average value of the welding current by their difference signal, in pulse arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: Arc welding is performed while feeding a consumable electrode in a constant speed to flow the welding current consisting of an approximately constant set peak-to-peak value pulse current and the base current of a constant-current characteristic to the consumable electrode. In this case, the average value of the arc voltage is detected by sampling during the base current period or the pulse continuity period. This detected voltage is compared with the set voltage above, and the period of the pulse current, the base current value, or the continuity time of the pulse current is changed to control the average value of the welding current. The arc length is held constant and is stabilized by this control of the current, thereby performing superior pulse arc welding with spatter reduced.
