739,972. Hydraulic brakes. KIRK, A. M. April 9, 1954, No. 10521/54. Class 103 (1). A master cylinder for hydraulic brakes comprises an extended housing 15 within which is coaxially mounted a cylinder 13 having stepped bores within which slides a secondary piston 81. Initial movement of the primary piston 12 causes liquid to be displaced through ports 75 so as to pass by the front of piston 81 and by pipe 57 to the brake cylinder. When the primary piston 12 has produced sufficient pressure when acting through port 50 in the end plate of cylinder 13 to move piston 81, the port 75 is cut off and the brakes are applied at a higher pressure due to the differential areas of the piston.
