Abstract

778,972. Hydraulic brakes. GIRLING, Ltd. March 22, 1956 [April 2, 1955], No. 9689/55. Class 103 (1). A master cylinder for hydraulic brakes has an auxiliary piston 32 located in a cylinder formed as an extension of the main cylinder 14, the piston 32 moving against a light spring 34 into engagement with a stop 35 formed on the cylinder end-plate 30, so that substantial pressure will not be produced in the cylinder 14 until the piston packing 18 has moved beyond the make-up port 23, damage to the packing lips being thus avoided. The hydraulic connection to the brake cylinders is from the port 24 indicated in the cylinder side wall.
