Abstract

739,357. Gear pumps. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS, Ltd., [formerly DOWTY AUTO UNITS, Ltd.]. Jan. 28, 1954, No. 2633/54. Class 110 (2). In a gear pump of the type shown in Fig. 1, having floating end bushes 15, 16, under external pressure from the delivery side, each bush 15 of the driving gear shaft 18 is provided with a lubricating groove 23 displaced from the plane containing the rotational axes of the gears 13, 14 towards the delivery side, so exposing the groove intermittently to the pressurized fluid for a substantial part of the period between the transition of one gear tooth and the next. Each bush 16 of the driven gear shaft 22 may have a similar groove 24 on the inlet side. Fluid transfer grooves 25, 26 on the delivery side can have counterparts 26, 25 on the inlet side in order that the bushes 15 and 16 are interchangeable.
