739,008. Pipe joints. VOGT, A. May 13, 1953 [May 13, 1952], No. 13387/53. Class 99 (1). In flanged joints for pipes &c. subjected to high temperatures, the flanges 4 are used for mechanical connection only, and sealing is effected between rings 10 connected to the flanges by poor heat conductors such as the webs 24 so as to protect the gasket 16. The thin webs may be integral with or welded to the rings and flanges, and may be flush with the joint faces of the rings and flanges. The rings may be cooled by fluid supplied through pipes 26. The flanges are compressed by clamps comprising pivoted jaws 6 and a bolt 8. Non- conducting shims 7 separate the jaws and flanges. The rings are secured by bolts 17.
