738,058. Rotary regenerative heat-exchangers. HOWDEN & CO., Ltd., J. June 23, 1953, No. 17386/53. Class 64 (1). In a rotary-matrix type regenerative heat - ex - changer for heat exchange between hot gases and cold air, a stationary cylindrical housing surrounding the rotor and extending axially thereof between suitably apertured end or sector plates 18, 19, is provided on its inner surface with heat insulation 30 extending at least on the hot gas side of the apparatus. Preferably, the insulation is disposed between the housing wall 16 and a sealing plate 32 disposed radially inwardly of the wall. As shown, the edges of the sealing plate 32 are received in grooves 34, 36, in the end plates so that relative movement between these members and the sealing plate is permitted. On the cold gas side of the apparatus heat insulation may be provided on the outer surface of the housing wall. The upper surface of the end plate 18 at the hot gas inlet end of the apparatus may also be provided with heat insulation (Fig. 3, not shown).
