Abstract

739,608. Regenerative heat-exchangers. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AKTIEBOLAG. Aug. 28, 1953 [Sept. 6, 1952], No. 23785/53. Class 64 (1). Relates to rotary regenerative heat-exchangers comprising a rotor divided by radial partitions 1 into sector-shaped compartments containing heat-transfer material and a housing surrounding the rotor having end plates 11, 11<SP>1</SP> opposite the rotor end faces and apertured to form circumferentially-spaced openings for gaseous heat-exchanging media to flow to and from the rotor compartments, the said openings each having two substantially radial bounding edges interconnected by a circumferential wall. According to the invention, sector sealing plates 2, 21, 3, 31 are disposed between each end face of the rotor and the adjacent end plate 11 or 11<SP>1</SP> and define channels corresponding in shape to the openings in the end plates, sealing strips 5, 6 being secured to those radial edges of the sealing plates bounding one of the channels and having their outer ends interconnected by a circumferential strip 7, co-operating strips 16, 17, 20 being provided on the housing end plates. In the form shown, the sealing strips bound the air channel of an air preheater in which the air is heated by hot gases and the radial edges of the sealing plates bounding the gas channel are also provided with sealing strips 8, 9 which are joined at their outer ends to the suitablyextended circumferential strip 7, co-operating strips 12, 13 being provided on the housing end plates. The sealing plates are pivoted near the rotor axis at 10, Fig. 2, and the upper and lower sealing plates are interconnected in pairs 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and 3, 31 by rods 21, the weight of each pair being balanced by a weight 26, Fig. 4. The minimum axial distance between each plate of an interconnected pair is determined by a stop 23, Fig. 4, whilst resilient yielding movement between the interconnected plates in the axial direction is permitted by the spring 24. The co-operating sealing strips around the air channel may be interconnected by a diaphragm 18. An axial sealing plate of the form described in Specification 737,960 may interconnect each opposed pair of sealing plates 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and 3, 3<SP>1</SP> respectively.
