737,677. Overload release clutches. BAUDER, G., [trading as WEZEL, C., [Firm of]]. Nov. 17, 1952 [Nov. 16, 1951], No. 28930/52. Class 80 (2). An overload release clutch disposed between a driving shaft 3 and a roller shaft 5 in a rolling plant comprises a claw member 14 slidably, but non-rotatably, mounted on one member 6 and urged, by a spring 16, into engagement with radially-disposed rollers 10 mounted in recesses 9 in a further member 7. The members 6, 7 are connected to the ends 2, 4 of shafts 3, 5 which are square with convex faces. The member 7 has an extended portion 24 rotatably retained in the member 6 by a nut 27. At their outer ends the roller recesses 9 are partly closed by a sleeve 11 secured by screws to the member 7. The breaking torque of the clutch may be adjusted by an abutment 19 which is keyed to the member 6 at 21 and is adjustable longitudinally by nuts 18. A wider adjustment is possible by substituting a different rate spring together with a corresponding spacing sleeve 22. Fig. 7 illustrates a modification in which the rollers have a conical portion 10a and cylindrical journal portions. The shoulders of the claw member 14 may be rounded (Fig. 13, not shown).
